Cleaning Tips
Carpet
Wax Removal
If
you have wax on your carpet, allow it to harden. Then, use a butter
knife to scrap off as much wax as possible. Next, place an old dish
towel over the wax and iron it with a warm iron. This should make
the wax transfer to the towel and off of your carpet.
Furniture
Legs and Carpet Cleaning
To keep your furniture legs from becoming damp while you steam
clean your carpet, place your furniture legs in sandwich baggies.
This is especially important to do if any of your furniture legs
are made out of metal. This will keep your metal furniture legs
from leaving a rusty stain on your carpet. Keep the baggies on your
furniture legs until your carpet has dried thoroughly.
Stop Carpet Static
Does your carpet hold enough static electricity to power New York
City? Are you constantly getting shocked when someone touches you?
If so, pour one part fabric softener into a spray bottle with three
parts water. Spray your carpet with this mixture and static and
shock should disappear. Good riddance!
Restoring Shine to old stainless steel sink
Use a fine sanding sponge to restore a stainless steel sink to
like new condition. Then wax it with a good car wax to extend its
life until the next time.
Oven Cleaning
If your oven is self cleaning then all you have to do is the prep
work and then a simple wipe down afterwards.
If your oven is not self cleaning then you will have to do a bit
more of scrubbing.
Begin by removing all the racks and washing these first with warm
soapy water.
Rinse well and allow to dry. Then sprinkle a bit of baking soda
inside the oven and spray with a small amount of white distilled
vinegar. Be careful as the vinegar will fizz when mixed with baking
soda. Allow to sit a while and then wipe well. Scrub any areas that
are heavily soiled. Be sure to rinse well. If any residue remains,
spray with some more white distilled white vinegar and wipe well.
Stove Range Hood Screen Cleaning
The easiest way to clean the screen filter on your range hood is
to first spray it down with a regular household cleaner that has
a degreaser in it. Let it sit for ten minutes. Next, put in your
dishwater (do not have dishes in your dishwasher) and run it through
the wash cycle. Be sure to add dishwashing detergent to the dishwasher.
This will give your hood screen a double dose.
How to Clean Leather Upholstery
When cleaning your leather upholstery you should use real soap.
Mix baby laundry detergent with water in a bowl. Take the suds only
and rub them onto the leather. To keep your leather supple, polish
it with a solution of 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water.
Removing Odors from Deep Freezers
If your deep freeze is starting to smell, your family should consume
the food as soon as possible or you should transfer the food to
another freezer. Next, unplug the freezer. Wipe it down with white
vinegar. If the odor is still lingering, either place backing soda
or coffee grounds in the bottom of the freezer and let it sit for
two days.
Kill Germs in Your Washing Machine
Running a full hot-water cycle in your machine and adding a cup
of chlorine bleach will help kill germs in your machine and make
it look, feel, and smell sparkling clean.
Remove Decals in the Bathroom
To remove decals from your bathroom shower or tub, pour vinegar
into a bowl and put it in the microwave to warm. Next, dip a cloth
in the warm vinegar and place it over the decals for an hour. Then,
lift the cloth and gently scrap the decal free. For truly stubborn
decals, use WD-40 to loosen them.
How to clean Chrome
Just put a few drops of baby oil in a small amount of water and
then wipe over chrome. Buff up with a dry soft cloth.
